SPAWP is leading a multi-year effort to reduce wildfire risk across 556 high-priority acres in the Cuchara Valley and Navajo Ranch neighborhoods. With $679,000 in support from the Colorado State Forest Service, this project builds on years of local and federal mitigation work to strengthen fire protection at a landscape scale.
Through this project, SPAWP is working with local landowners and contractors to:
- Improve firefighter access and evacuation routes
- Reduce hazardous fuels around homes and infrastructure
- Protect wildlife habitat and drinking water sources
- Tie into nearby U.S. Forest Service and CSFS mitigation work for broader impact
