2023–2024 | Majors Ranch & Middle Creek, Huerfano County
Funded by: BLM-CO Forests and Woodlands Resource Management Grant
This project focuses on erosion control and insect infestation response in the Cucharas and Huerfano River watersheds, areas heavily impacted by the 2018 Spring Creek Fire. With a $55,000 cooperative agreement from the Bureau of Land Management, SPAWP is working with local landowners to stabilize soils and remove stressed trees affected by Ips beetle outbreaks.
Project activities include:
- Erosion control to manage post-fire runoff from public lands
- Fuels treatment and forest restoration on private properties
- Upcoming work to remove dead and infested trees on Majors Ranch
